Wal-Mart to measure its customers environmental awareness

Wal-Mart announced that it will be tracking consumer habits to test awareness on environmental issues. The company is launching this initiative as a way to attract upscale shoppers to its stores for products such as organic food. It's Live Better Index will be a "barometer of customer attitudes" and will be based on sales of items such as compact fluorescent light bulbs, organic milk and baby food, extended-life paper products and laundry detergents. According the the company, New Hampshire is the "greenest" state, while Connecticut, Rhode Island (Yay...my old state!), North Dakota and California fare quite well.
