Burger King will probably use the franchise model in India

The Economic Times reports that Burger King is planning its strategy for the Indian market and to take on its old rival McDonald’s who has already created a market for itself in India. According to an industry analyst, “In the short term, McDonald’s would lose some customers to Burger King out of the sheer curiosity factor. However, this would happen only if both are located in the same catchment area.”

Burger King will be using the same strategy that it used for Japan, using franchises and making smaller, less expensive restaurants that fully use available space. Burger King has 11,129 restaurants of which 1,240 are company owned and 9,889 are franchisees and is currently located in the US and 65 countries.
