Expectations

Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are a good person is a little like expecting the bull not to attack you because you are a vegetarian.

This really hit me, absolutely stunned me the first time I read it. From childhood, we are taught that if we are good to others, then others and the world at large will be good to us. Well, that's really not how it works. One is good to others just because one wants to be, and not because one expects anything in return. If you are doing good things solely for the purpose that you will get something back, then you will definately be dissapointed. Just do good, thing good and expect absolutely nothing. Everything else will work itself out.
