Ontok Highlighter

A few months ago, I hesitatingly signed up for Google Adsense. From the start I wasn’t too keen on the way the ads took over my space and altered the way this blog looked. Today, I came across a software program called Ontok Highlighter, which allows you to link to key words on your website in a more subtle way.

The Ontok Highlighter opens a window with search results from sites such as Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Technorati, etc when you mouse over specific highlighted words. The search results are undeniably more relevant to your page than ads coughed up by other such programs such as Intellitxt and Kontera.

Besides customizing the results, the Ontok Highlighter also lets you select the highlight color to match your page and theme. All you need is your code for Adsense, or Amazon or eBay, for whichever results you would prefer. It takes just five minutes to set it up and works quite well with blogger. The program has been designed by a computational linguist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

For more information on how it works, or to see a demo visit the Ontok Highlighter site.

Oh, and did I mention, it’s all free.
