list: ah august!

So, it's August already, the peak of summer, the time when one starts to wait for the cooler winds of autumn, the anticipation of a change of seasons, the easing up of the heat. I found an advertisement for a water chiller...essentially an AC for your overhead water tank, that cools the boiling water so that you can have a bath without getting second degree burns.

In Dubai, august is when,
~ you burn your hands if you open the taps between 8am and 6pm.
~ it's impossible to do a cold water laundry, unless you wake up before sunrise.
~ clothes come out steaming from the washing machine.
~ it's hot, humid, muggy, still, oppressive, hot and more hot than the month before.
~ sore throats are rampant, from going from back and forth from super hot outside to chilled inside...mine is bad these days...have been having extra glasses of tea and VitC tabs.
~ one starts wilting and hoping that time passes faster till the weather improves.

Posting a cool cool picture to go with my hot hot post. This shot was taken in June in my room at my parents place in Chandigarh.

I can feel what you are going through because it was very hot last month in the place where I live now.
I wish that the weather improves soon. Take lots of Glucose water or water mixed with a pinch of salt and half teaspoon of sugar to get rid of dehydration.

BTW, Lovely photo !!!

It's really interesting to learn about your life, what a difference it makes where one lives! :) I can't imagine such hot weather, I have been feeling like it's been too hot over here this summer and I bet it's not the same at all as you have :)

Krish, thanks for the link. I've never submitted any of my photos for a competition, so thanks for the compliment.

Katja, yes, such a difference it makes! I find it interesting to live in different places and learn how to adapt to local conditions.

JD, thanks....yes, we've been reading about how hot and muggy it's been in India as well. Barely any rains in most of the country.

Reminds me of my own stay. And the first time I was in Dubai on a stopover, I was aghast at not being able to take a bath after checking into the hotel around 9am! And if it's hot in the city, it's hell beyond. In Jebel Ali, 'belt buckles turn red' in July, as someone said. Brave are the people who strut about in full Western suits in this weather - envy the galabiya that locals carry off with such elan.

And can you imagine leather seats are still a popular choice for cars here. Ouch!

Yes, the jalabiya's and abaya's are a great way to beat the heat.
