Our flag raising ceremony

Today is India's 57th Republic Day. We had our own flag-raising ceremony at the basketball courts in our apartment complex to mark the occasion. Since most residents living here are connected to the armed forces, the event was well attended, by former service men as well as kids who sang the national anthem, not as enthusiastically as we used to sing it in school, but quite well nevertheless. It was the first time I have attended a function to mark Republic Day, I think. We had winter vacations from school at this time, so other then watching the parade on TV, we never did anything special. It was nice to have our own event, to mark this day out from all others and to make it count.
