Book lists
I love making lists, always have and always will. One of my favorite type of lists are of the books I have read and those I want to buy. On looking at my list, I realized that 2006 wasn't too good of a year in terms of reading. I read a paltry 9 books in the entire year. Absolutely pathetic, right?
Here's the list of the books I read in 2006
I did read several business books such as Built to Last and several others this year for a summarization project I was doing. I enjoyed reading most of the books, one book I definitely did not enjoy and that was the only one where it felt like I was working.
Here's the list of the books I read in 2006
- Shadow of the Wind-Carlos Ruiz Zafon
- The Undercover Economist- Tim Harford
- Rich Like Us-Nayantara Sahgal
- The Hungary Tide-Amitav Ghosh
- East of Eden-John Steinbeck
- The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid-CK Prahalad
- The Red Carpet-Lavanya Sankaran
- Remaking India-Arun Maira
- The Constant Gardner-John LeCarre
Actually, if you think about it, although I didn't read too many books, I did read some pretty great ones. Ultimately, what is important, quantity or quality? The latter is more important I think, good books that stay with you for a lifetime, rather than fluff forgotten within a week.
I am currently reading The Art of the Steal by Christopher Mason, about the Sotheby's-Christie's auction house scandal.
On my to-read list are:
- The Prince of Providence by Mike Stanton which is about Providence's ex-mayor Buddy Cianci, the most notorious mayor in all of America who is now doing time in prison.
- The End of Poverty by Jefferey Sachs, which I have already started reading.
- Writing White Papers by Michael Stelzner, one of the foremost writers in the white paper industry.
- Governance by Arun Shourie
- The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield, which I read years ago, but want to read again.
Update:
I did read several business books such as Built to Last and several others this year for a summarization project I was doing. I enjoyed reading most of the books, one book I definitely did not enjoy and that was the only one where it felt like I was working.
