Time to modernize real estate commision rates

Do you feel that real estate agents charge too much? Is they worth the cost? We have paid heavy amounts each time we have used agents for rental agreements and shudder to think what we would end up paying as commision when we finally buy our own place. Things seem to be changing though, as not everyone is happy with the high commisions that realtors make. An Austin real estate agency is offering half of its commision to buyers. So if the house you are looking at is listed with the traditional 6% commision, of which 3% goes to the listing agent and 3% goes to the selling agent, you can get 1.5% back as Alcan Properties will give back half of its share.
