Big box retailers try out multi-level layouts

The Miami Herald reports that more and more stores are changing their layouts to fit with the changing urban landscape. Instead of the traditional one level stores, an increasing number of stores are opting for multi-level layouts. Big Box retailing has been growing at a fast pace in recent years but now retailers are now willing to experiment with newer and different layouts and formats.

Target has 33 multilevel stores nationwide, including one in Deerfield Beach that opened in 2001. The Target opening today in Midtown Miami has multilevel parking attached. Wal-Mart, Costco and The Home Depot have all been experimenting with slimmed-down, vertical stores around the country.
